The difference between Marine dual-use battery, deep cycle battery, and starter battery
The difference between Marine dual-use battery, deep cycle battery, and starter battery

Overview

Boat battery comes in three main types, including deep cycle, start, and dual-use. If you’re a new fisherman, or boat owner, or interested in upgrading your boat to lithium batteries, you might be curious about the difference. Also, you may be wondering why lithium batteries are better for your boat than lead-acid batteries. Some of the significant advantages of lithium boat batteries include longer shelf life, constant power, heat resistance, faster charging, maintenance-free, lightweight, safe, and harmless. Now, let’s take a closer look at the differences between each type of Marine battery.

Dual Boat Battery

You may be wondering, what is a dual-use battery? Dual-use Boat battery provides enough power to start the engine and flip it over, as well as enough energy to keep the trawler motor running. As the name suggests, a dual-use battery can do both things. Maxworld Power 12.8V100AH dual-use models are capable of delivering up to 800 amps of current in two seconds to start your boat’s motor.

The marine battery comes in a range of different BCI sizes. The most commonly used Boat battery sizes include batteries belonging to Groups 24, 27, 31, and 8D. Maxworld Power is Group 31 of Marine battery,12V 300Ah battery belongs to 8D battery pack size. Common applications for 12.8V100AH include bass boats and charter fishing vessels, and common applications for 12.8V300AH include large sailboats and catamarans.

Deep Cycle Battery

Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide steady energy and sustained power to your trawler motor for a longer period. These batteries are used to power loads that typically include navigation equipment, fishers, running lights, radios, and trawler motors. It depends on what you’re looking for; You can get the best of both worlds with a dual-use motor, but if you’re looking for a battery that can last longer in a trawler motor, be sure to check out the deep cycle battery. All products are deep cycle, including lithium deep cycle batteries and AGM.

Starter battery

A marine starter battery is used to start ignition. For a Boat battery, the engine must be started, and then sufficient power is provided to maintain motors and equipment connected to the ship. We provide 12V100AH battery Group 31 and 12V200AH battery pack 8D. Our high-performance series of batteries are both Marine starter and deep cycle batteries to power your onboard electronics. The 12V100AH increases peak current compared to our standard battery. The increase in peak amps can be used to start the most demanding outboard engines. Essentially, the starter battery discounts a lot of energy in a short period, making it ideal for starting an outboard engine.

Trolling motor battery

Trolling motor battery is specially designed for trolling boat motor batteries. The purpose behind them is to provide power for longer periods while slowly trawling through fishing areas. The number of lithium batteries you need depends on your trawler motor voltage. Maxworld Power offers 12V and 24V lithium batteries. If you have a 12V trawl motor, you can choose from a variety of 12V lithium battery options. If you have a 24V trawler motor, you can use 2 12V batteries in series or use a single 24V battery. Maxworld Power offers a wide selection of 12V lithium batteries.

Just like a fuel gauge, the number of ampere-hours will determine how long your battery will last. Ampere-hour can measure the power in the battery of the tow fishing motor. The most common trawl fishing motor lithium battery will be lightweight and provide enough ampere-hours to optimize your fishing time. Maxworld Power offers excellent options for your trawler motors, including 52Ah, 75Ah, 60Ah, 80Ah, and 100Ah deep cycle batteries respectively. To get the same running time as a wet or AGM lead-acid battery, you need to use a lithium battery with a capacity of 60% of that lead-acid battery. If you want to spend more time on the water, scale up from there, or add extra batteries to your boat’s battery pack.

How to charge a Marine battery

When lithium boat batteries are compared with lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries can be charged at a higher current and more efficiently. This means they can recharge their battery faster. The lithium-ion battery has other advantages: they do not need to be recharged if they are partially discharged. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lead-acid batteries sulfate when partially charged, which greatly reduces performance and life.

We recommend using multiple sets of boat battery chargers so that each 12V battery can be charged separately to ensure they are balanced and fully charged. Ideally, use a charger with a lithium charging profile, but most AGM charging profiles will work fine. Two of our recommended chargers include the NOCO and Dual Pro chargers.

LiFePO4 Boat battery can also be charged using most alternators. Depending on the quality of the alternator, it should be used with a lithium-iron phosphate battery. An inferior AC generator with poor voltage regulation will cause the BMS to disconnect the LiFePO4 battery. If the BMS disconnects the battery, the alternator may be damaged. To protect your lithium iron phosphate battery and alternators, be sure to use a compatible high-quality alternator or install a voltage regulator.
