Types of Lithium Ion Batteries

A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery composed of cells in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode through an electrolyte to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. Li-ion cells use an intercalated lithium compound as the material at the positive electrode and typically graphite at the negative electrode. In recent years, lithium batteries have become increasingly popular. If you observe carefully you will find them in every electrical component, including smartwatches, wireless headphones, smartphones, and laptops.

Thoughlithium-ion batteryis typically used as a general, all-encompassing term, there are actually at least a dozen different lithium-based chemistries that make up these rechargeable batteries. Some of the most common types of lithium batteries include Lithium iron phosphate battery(LFP), Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC), Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO), and Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (LNMCO).

LFP (Lithium Ferrophosphate or Lithium Iron Phosphate) is currently our favorite battery for several reasons. They are many times lighter than lead-acid batteries and last much longer with an expected life of over 4000 cycles. Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) is a class of electrode material that can be used in the fabrication of lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO) and Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (LNMCO) are the two most frequent types of lithium-ion batteries now in use (NMC). LCO has the biggest market share (37%) among these, owing to its widespread use in small portable devices such as phones, tablets, laptops, and cameras.

Speaking another types of lithium ion batteries, NMC is one among them that came to the market in 2008. As the last version of a lithium-ion battery, this type comes with a mixture of Cobalt, Manganese, and Nickel. The unique mix of materials has made this battery long-lasting, and you can use it for high-power applications.s
